If you have ever tried your hand at selling on eBay you should have learned a few lessons from experience.

All the experts advise you to get your hand in by selling junk from your home. Great! You will learn a little, and make a little money at the same time.

For each bit of junk you sell, you have to take a couple of photographs and write an exciting description that will make people want to buy from you. Oh...Oh! You are getting rid of it because it bores you, and you have to try to make it sound exciting?

Fine. You get all your descriptions ready, and list them. You have to pay for listing, whether it results in a sale or not.

Now three people email you with questions about each product and send follow-up questions. That's two emails for each of three people that you have to write. That takes up a lot of your time.

The auctions end. Half of them close without a sale. The others end at midnight your time...when you are normally asleep...and they expect you to email them immediately to tell them when to expect delivery.

Next morning you drag yourself out of bed, and find cardboard boxes to put each item in, print out your receipts, label everything, and stagger down to the post office under your heavy load. You then post everything by express mail so as to have a record of delivery.

One parcel comes back with a nasty letter from a dissatisfied customer who changed her mind and deliberately broke your junk so as to get a refund. You send the refund.

Then you pay eBay their commissions for the completed sales, and list the uncompleted sales again.

What's wrong with this picture?

Well, all your products had something in common. Here are some searches that people might make, for products that will give you the same trouble.

Have you spotted what they all have in common? They all have to be packaged up and taken to the Post Office after you have gone through the rigmarole about answering questions, accepting payment, paying expenses. Then you go through finding boxes, addressing them, stamping them, taking them to the Post Office and paying all the refunds.

But wait...you are in a country that doesn't accept PayPal, and you have to deliver to a country on the other side of the world, and delivery takes 20 days. For the last 15 days you get an email every day asking you why they don't have delivery yet. Then it turns out that someone in your postal service has stolen the package, and you have to send a replacement one.

  6. You know that there will be no damaged packages, because there is nothing to package.
