Have you ever visited a site and clicked on interesting links, only to find that they were broken? Did you just hit the back button? The search engines hate broken links just as much.
Xenu is simple free website software that detects broken links. Download it from http://home.snafu.de/tilman/xenulink.html.
Unfortunately it only works on the latest versions of Windows, and not on other operating systems.
There is a short video about Xenu broken link detector in the beginners make own website members privilege section.
Once it is installed, start it up and click File > Check URL.
Type in the URL.
When the results appear I like to choose to display broken links ordered by page. That way I can open each page in Arachnophilia HTML Editor and correct all the broken links, then move on to the next page.
When you think you have fixed all the broken links, run Xenu again until there are no broken links left.
Get your webmaster tools and resources while they are still free.
